#28: Creating a Self-Compassion Practice with Kate James
Oct 13, 2021 Season 2 Episode 28
Becky Corbett

It's no secret that we are often our own worst critics! The practice of self-compassion can transform that harsh and judgemental inner dialogue about ourselves into one which is more compassionate and understanding. This enables us to befriend ourselves through extending the same kindness to ourselves as what we would a dear friend or loved one. Self-compassion is not some "fluffy" ideal, but a practice grounded in evidence-based research which has the power to transform the way you relate to yourself and the world around you.

In this week's episode, I speak with Kate James about how to create a self-compassion practice and why this is especially important for the highly sensitive person (HSP). Kate is an author, coach and teacher of meditation, mindfulness and self-compassion. Kate explains:

  • What self-compassion is and the three key elements which define it
  • The key benefits of self-compassion and why it is especially supportive for the HSP
  • How self-compassion can enhance our relationship with self and others
  • Ideas for soothing self-compassion practices to cultivate calm and balance
  • How Kate creates beauty in her everyday life through simple practices and rituals
